Holiday Apartments in Amsterdam
Dec 6th
In line with the rest of Europe, it is safe then to assume Amsterdam holiday apartment rental will remain big business for as long as the demand for freedom of space and connection with local communities exists – luxuries rarely afforded by a stay in a hotel. Or is it?
An Amsterdam holiday apartment owner recently passed on advice outlining a government crackdown on the Amsterdam short-term rental industry including Amsterdam apartment rentals for rental periods less than six months. The Amsterdam apartment owner sited illegal hotels operating in Amsterdam and a housing shortage as the reasons behind the Government’s crackdown, and went so far as to remove his short-term holiday let from the market pending the introduction of permits, which, he explained, would allow the rental of Amsterdam holiday apartments to tourists.
The holiday apartment owner in question remains hopeful that permits will materialise in time for the summer crowds, but do his concerns have a basis in reality?
It remains easy to book short rental periods for Amsterdam accommodation including apartments in Amsterdam. The normal required minimum length of stay is three days, but can sometimes be even shorter. And there are plenty of apartment owners and agencies specialising in Amsterdam apartments operating on the Internet. A quick look through google using such popular search phrases as ‘holiday Amsterdam apartment’ or ‘apartment rental Amsterdam’ does little to corroborate our cautious apartment owner’s concerns.
In fact the only information in support of a government crackdown is a dubious forum post and subsequent thread that alleges the action against certain types of accommodation in Amsterdam extends to customers: Unfortunate holiday goers have allegedly been evicted from premises up-and-down Amsterdam, and turfed out like yesterday’s newspapers, onto the street. But, if this were true, one might expect a trail of complaints and warnings to other leisure travellers left by unhappy consumers, of which there is none in evidence.
It is possible there is some bureaucratic oddity to circumnavigate when placing an apartment in Amsterdam on the market for holiday rentals. In Catalunya, Spain, for example, a law exists stating that in some areas holiday rentals must be registered with the council. But since Spanish law holds jurisdiction over Catalunyan law, a rental contract between the landlord and guest negates this apparent necessity.
Similar could be so for at least some areas of Amsterdam. The dodgy forum post claims the Dutch government is targeting illegal hotels including short term apartments in the centrum [sic]. Inner city problems could convincingly explain the need for monitoring the use of dwellings, especially in areas of high housing need. But there is a wide gap between monitoring and targeting.
When all is said and done, the likelihood of the authorities kicking you out of your holiday apartment in Amsterdam seem slim at a conservative estimate, and probably fantastical. Nor are there any reliable grounds for concern for owners of holiday apartments. Holiday apartments Amsterdam has mileage in the tourist industry yet.
More To Brazil Than Carnivals
Dec 3rd
Brazil was a colony of Portugal from the landing of Pedro Alvares Cabral in 1500 until its independence in 1822. Brazil’s climate has little seasonal variation since most of the country is located within the tropics. Brazil’s production and consumption of biodiesel relative to its energy matrix is expected to reach to 2% of diesel fuel in 2008 and 5% in 2013. Brazil has the largest population of Italian origin outside of Italy, with over 25 million Italian Brazilians, the largest Japanese population outside of Japan, with 1.
Brazil continues to pursue industrial and agricultural growth and development of its interior. Brazil has had to be bailed out in times of economic crisis, but reforms in the 1990s, including privatisations, brought some financial stability. Brazil is the giant of South America with nearly half of the continent’s area and people; worldwide it ranks fifth in both area and population, which is as diverse as it is large.
Brazil has one of the most advanced industrial sectors in Latin America. Brazil’s vast territory covers a great variety of land and climate, for although Brazil is mainly in the tropics (it is crossed by the equator in the north and by the Tropic of Capricorn in the south), the southern part of the great central upland is cool and yields the produce of temperate lands. Brazil is South America’s biggest and most influential country and takes up almost half the continent.
Brazilas air transportation system has been in disarray since accidents with fatalities occurred in September 2006 and July 2007. Brazilians see time as something outside their control and the demands of relationships takes precedence over adhering to a strict schedule. Brazilian law requires that for all travel, Brazilian children (including dual nationals) must carry a letter of consent from the non-travelling parent(s) authorising travel.
The Brazilian population is concentrated along the coastline and in a few large urban centers in the interior. Sugar became by far the most important Brazilian colonial product until the early 18th century. Portugal would recognize Brazil as an independent country in 1825. The legal system is bases on the Federal Constitution, promulgated on October 5, 1988, and is the fundamental law of Brazil.
The Northeast region is inhabited by about 30% of Brazil’s population. Most of Brazil has moderate rainfall of 1,000 to 1,500 millimeters a year, with most of the rain falling in the summer (between December and April), south of the Equator.
Belarus An Interesting Place to Visit
Dec 1st
Belarus is a presidential republic, governed by a president and the National Assembly. Belarus is landlocked, relatively flat, and contains large tracts of marshy land. Belarus has historically been a Russian Orthodox country, with minorities practicing Catholicism, Judaism, and other religions. Belarus has been described as “a small-scale Soviet Union at its finest period”.
Belarus receives heavily discounted oil and natural gas from Russia and much of Belarus’ growth can be attributed to the re-export of Russian oil at market prices. Belarus has only small reserves of petroleum and natural gas and imports most of its oil and gas from Russia. Belarusian membership in the Council of Europe was not supported; bilateral relations at the ministerial level were suspended; and EU technical assistance programs were frozen.
Belarusian tourist visas are issued upon presentation of the original of the tourist voucher received from any Belarusian tour operator or tourist agency. Belarus won its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 but remains close to Russia economically and politically. The Constitution of Belarus does not declare an official religion, although the primary religion in the country is Russian Orthodox. The change was made to reflect adequately the Belarusian language form of the name. The Belarusian Constitution forbids the use of special extra-judicial courts. Like many other European countries, Belarus has a negative population growth rate and a negative natural growth rate. At the end of the 19th century, major Belarusian cities formed their own opera and ballet companies. The largest media holding group in Belarus is the state-owned National State Teleradiocompany.
Ukraine’s declaration of independence, in particular, led the leaders of then Belarusian SSR to realize that the Soviet Union was on the brink of collapsing, which it did. The BPF declared itself a movement open to any individual or party, including communists, provided that those who joined shared its basic goal of a fully independent and democratic Belarus. Because of these restrictive economic policies, Belarus has had trouble attracting foreign investment. By the end of Second Northern War the region of Prussia, Poland and GDL (Belarus and all Baltic states) was so demolished that for about 100 years culture and civilization was pretty much suspended here.
The areas were claimed because of a Belarusian majority according to demographic research, although there were also numbers of Lithuanians, Poles and people speaking pidgins of Belarusian, Lithuanian and Polish, as well as many Jews, mostly in towns and cities (in some towns they made up a majority).
Sample The Delights Of Bahrain
Nov 30th
Bahrain became part of the Babylonian empire about 600 BC. Bahrain to this day remains a member of the Arab League and Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf. Bahrain has mild winters and very hot, humid summers. Bahrain is a generally flat and arid archipelago, consisting of a low desert plain rising gently to a low central escarpment, in the Persian Gulf, east of Saudi Arabia. Bahrain offered a new location at the centre of the booming Persian Gulf with a large educated indigenous workforce and sound fiscal regulations.
Bahrain assesses heavy fines on visitors who fail to depart Bahrain at the end of their authorized stay. Bahrain has history dating back 5000 years, from the ancient Dilmun period through the Islamic era. Bahrain does not recognize dual nationality, except for citizens of countries belonging to the Gulf Cooperation Council (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia).
Bahrain has become one of the Persian Gulf’s most advanced economies and most progressive political systems since gaining its independence from Great Britain in 1971. Historical records referred to Bahrain with names such as the “Life of Eternity”, “Paradise”, and Eden. For most of that period, they resorted to governing Bahrain indirectly, either through Hormuz or through local Sunni Arab clans, such as the Huwala. On 11-12 November 2005, Bahrain hosted the Forum for the Future bringing together leaders from the Middle East and G8 countries to discuss political and economic reform in the region.
Environmental issues facing Bahrain include desertification resulting from the degradation of limited arable land and coastal degradation (damage to coastlines, coral reefs, and sea vegetation) resulting from oil spills and other discharges from large tankers, oil refineries, and distribution stations. Another language spoken by some of the local inhabitants of Bahrain is a dialect of Persian which has been heavily influenced by Arabic.
The University of Bahrain has been established for standard undergraduate and graduate study, and the College of Health Sciences operating under the direction of the Ministry of Health trains physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and paramedics. Al Khamis Mosque, founded in 692, was one of the earliest mosques built in Bahrain, in the era of Umayyad caliph Umar II. However, the exact date at which the term “Bahrain” began to refer solely to the Awal archipelago is unknown.
An Afghan invasion of Iran at the beginning of the eighteenth century resulted in the near collapse of the Safavid state, and the resultant power vacuum saw Oman invade Bahrain in 1717, ending over a hundred years of Persian hegemony.
Finding A Car Hire Company
Nov 28th
Car hire can be a confusing experience at the best of the times. The reams of paperwork are the first factor to consider; in some cases these procedures can seriously slow you up meaning less time to enjoy yourself on holiday. With so many options today in the car hire market, it is understandable that consumers are often befuddled. Here is a brief presentation of tips and hints that should make your experience easier and cheaper.
The most important advice to those wishing to use a hire car is to book the car in advance. Like the majority of travel services, early booking will result in considerable discounts. It is the case that a number of companies will in fact increase the hire rates when there is a high demand, such as the peak tourist period or festivals. Hence, by booking in advance, you should be able to gain a discount and protect yourself from the increased rates at peak times. It is worth studying the car hire company’s cancellation policy in detail as this will come into effect should you have to cancel your hire car. Cancellation however rarely carries a charge unless it is within a week of your hire period.
When you are choosing your hire company your decision should not just purely depend upon what type of car you would like. Firstly you should consider the hire rates, vehicle availability and service. It is always a tempting option to take the cheapest price, but rarely advisable, the relationship between price and services is strong, so while you may think you are getting a great deal; you may in fact be stung.
If you use a hire car company regularly it is normally worth enquiring about their loyalty packages. The benefits of these clubs can make rates more affordable although you may be limited by choice of cars. An additional benefit of being part of a car hire company’s loyalty club will mean that they already know your details, so your transition from desk to car will be made that bit more simplistic and speedy.
One of your primary concerns should be the service the company will be able to deliver. At this stage you should never underestimate the worth of a personal recommendation. If you have a friend that has used a car hire company and thought the service was excellent, it would be foolish not to go with the company they have recommended. If you have no recommendations to go on, it is advisable to research as many companies as possible, comparing their prices and services via internet travel forums. Once again, the cheapest price may not bring the best service; in the same way, the most expensive does not guarantee unrivalled service either, only research and recommendation will enable you to find a good balance of cost and service.
Remember that when you are drawing up the contract for your car hire period it is advisable to add any additional drivers that may be in control of the vehicle. It is vital to tell the hire company about these people as if you do not it is likely you will invalidate any protection you may have had if something happens to the car. It may come as a premium, but adding extra drivers can enrich your trip by sharing the driving amongst the party.
With this advice you should be able to find a car hire company that not only fulfils your service requirements but is also easy on the wallet. A company with a well built reputation is the ideal as this will give more support in the event of problems. Just remember that your goal is to balance service against cost, finding a company that will serve you well at a reasonable price.

Holden Beach Vacation Activities
Nov 26th
Have you ever wanted to visit Holden Beach for your vacation? Believe it or not, most individuals living in the United States have not ever heard or visited Holden Beach. It is one of the prettiest, largest, and most visited beaches in the States. It is a vacation destination that is truly enjoyed by all who visit the area.
So what is there to do on vacation at Holden Beach? Located on the coast of North Carolina, there aren’t many attractions like in Southern California. You are pretty much limited to beach activities and some shopping. That is perfectly fine because there is a ton of stuff to do to keep everyone in your family busy for the entire trip.
Clamming
Have you ever been clamming before? I hadn’t until I visited Holden Beach for the first time. One day we decided to go clamming and got all the gear that we needed. When you find the clams, you put them in fresh water in a bucket and it forces them to open their shells slightly. As soon as they do, you can crack them open. It is quite entertaining for young children, if you are brining any along for the trip.
Kayaking
I had never been kayaking on the ocean until I visited Holden Beach. I thought it was just for small lakes and rivers. It was actually pretty fun to rent some kayaks and head out on the open ocean. The water is so blue and crystal clear that you can see all sorts of aquatic wild life as you are out on the open ocean.
Shark Fishing
This is an intense activity enjoyed by anyone over the age of 10. If you look around and find an opportunity to go out on a boat in the middle of the ocean to fish for sharks, you need to take advantage of that. This is something that I had never heard of since most of our beach vacations take place in Southern California. The second time I visited Holden Beach, I actually got to go out and fish for sharks. There are special poles and bait that you use and when you catch one, it is truly amazing!
Lighthouses
The lighthouses up and down the coast of North Carolina are truly astounding. They are landmarks that stand high above the coast and are amazing to see. If you do your research, you can book a tour of just about any of the lighthouses in the area and take your family through to see what is inside. This is a great activity for days that are a bit cooler or stormy. No matter what, you need to take the time to go see at least one.
There are lots of other things to do while on vacation at Holden Beach. There is something for everyone and it will be a vacation that neither you, nor any member of your family will forget. So, ditch the traditional Disneyland vacation and head to a new destination, Holden Beach!
Rome: Great Tourist Destination
Nov 23rd
Rome was founded as far back 753 BC by the twins, Romulus and Remus. It grew substantially until it became the Roman Empire which was ruled by an Emperor from the year 27 BC.
The Roman Empire became a political and economic center for the Western World. Its influence stretched far and wide and it was said that “all roads lead to Rome.” This most powerful Empire, however, fell in 476 AD. It had a bumpy history following its fall. The city retained its status as the capital of the Papal States and later on it became a center of culture and artistic activity which it has somewhat retained to this day.
Over its turbulent history, the population in the area has risen and fallen depending on the trend of the time. In modern times, Rome seems to once again be on an upward climb in terms of its permanent population.
It is a very popular tourist destination seeing approximately ten million tourists through its city every year. The city is a city of contrasts. On the one hand, tourists will find busy thoroughfares and expensive prices. On the other hand, it is full of small shady parks, fountains and piazzas. It is full of ancient ruins, famous monuments and fascinating museums. You can view the remains of ancient times, see the fantastic architecture from the Renaissance period, enjoy a gastronomical treat in a traditional Italian restaurant or relax in the gardens of European royalty.
Due to the huge number of tourists that visit Rome annually there are a vast number of holiday accommodation options to choose from. From the traditional to the unique, visitors can choose the place that appeals to them most. Hotels are a popular accommodation choice in Rome. They range greatly in price and quality. You can choose to stay in luxury hotel or you can easily find a budget hotel often in the area surrounding Termini Station.
Holiday apartments or villas can be found to rent. These are a good option for small groups or families as they provide more space and privacy than a hotel. Bed and breakfasts are fast becoming popular in Rome. If you go for this option be prepared that they may simply be a room in some-one’s house.
For those who are traveling alone or who are looking for a cheap accommodation option, many convents open their doors to paying travelers. These convents are strongly Catholic and they may only accept Catholic guests who book their rooms through their local church. Many, however, will accept guests of any religion as long as they are prepared to stay in a Catholic environment and abide by the convent’s rules.
